Help Rays of Hope warm up Alex

As winter sets in Rays of Hope calls on the community to sponsor packages with blankets and other warm goodies for those in need.

Rays of Hope calls on the community’s help with this year’s #WarmUpAlex campaign.

The annual campaign is aimed at assisting individuals in need in the Alexandra community by raising donations for non-perishable foods, blankets, winter clothing, and anything else to help keep the community warm this winter.

When the initiative first began in 2019, the non-profit organisation provided food, blankets and warm clothes to more than 6 000 people and in 2021 over 2 400 people benefitted from the campaign.

According to interim CEO and board chairperson John Shuttleworth, the organisation hopes to reach many more people this year with the help of the community and businesses.

“Winter has settled in Johannesburg rather suddenly with overnight temperatures dropping notably. This year donors are invited to sponsor warm-up Alex packages, which are pre-prepared with blankets and other warm goodies.”

Shuttleworth added that by proactively ‘warming up Alexandra’, it reduced the number of devastating fires and the terrible consequences thereof.

“We are looking forward to the managed distribution of these packages which will bring much needed relief in the community.”
