City entities get their share of budget

MMC for Finance Julie Suddaby broke down her budget allocation to cover all the entities of the City of Johannesburg to enable them to conduct the ‘Golden Repair’.

City of Johannesburg MMC for Finance Julie Suddaby has broken down her maiden ‘Golden Repair’ budget to cover the various city entities.

Suddaby allocated R1.2 billion for capital expenditure on the rehabilitation of the City Power electricity infrastructure and associated upgrades while its operational costs have been budgeted at R20.5 billion, of which R1.6 billion has been earmarked for the reduction of power outages.

Joburg Water has been allocated R13.9 billion operational budgets to ensure that 95% of water burst pipes were repaired within 48 hours, 92% of sewer blockages with 24 hours and 95% of water supply interruption concluded within 12 hours of notification. An allocation of R930 million has been set aside for water supply and sewer infrastructure rehabilitation.

Pikitup has been allocated a R3.5 billion operational budget to ensure a cleaner city. She urged residents to come to the party by not littering under the guise of creating jobs.

Suddaby said a R1.3 million operational budget has been set aside to employ 150 park rangers to keep parks safe. An amount of R200 million has been allocated to enable Emergency Medical Services to acquire 20 fire engines, with R1.1 million as operational costs and an additional R10 million to acquire fire and rescue equipment.

On city Health, Suddaby said R21.5 million has been allocated for the full implementation of the eHealth system while R1.8 billion has been set aside as operational costs for health and social development to fight drug abuse, among other things.

The Johannesburg Roads Agency received R1.1 billion for the rehabilitation of the pothole-affected roads, infrastructure and traffic lights. Sports and recreational facilities received a capital expenditure budget of R89 million.
