Squash returns to Wanderers Club

Squash returns to Wanderers Club courts with the introduction of Saturday morning squash events.

Wanderers Club is eager to welcome squash lovers back to its courts with the introduction of Saturday morning squash events.

According to Dino Petrarolo, chair of the Wanderers Club Squash Section, the club made the change to weekend events as the previous home-and-away format on the weekdays proved to be difficult for the participating women who have commitments around their work-life balance.

“We therefore proposed a format where ladies would play squash at a central venue on Saturdays and this has gained the necessary interest,” he said.

Players entering the league will be assigned a team and position based on their experience and ranking.

Teams will range from first to fourth league levels, with the first league players participating on the Wanderers’ championship all-glass court and the second and third league players on the standard or all-glass court.

The fourth league players will play on the standard court.

“Wanderers Club offers squash courts of world championship quality. Our all-glass courts with ‘one-way’ glass presents players with almost opaque walls while spectators are able to watch the action from all sides.

“This provides facilities behind the front wall to take photos and videos while facing the players for training and publicity purposes.”

The club is looking at the possibility of scheduling two games per month based on the interest already shown. Starting times will be between 09:00 and 10:00.
