The cross country runners from Hyde Park High School recently gave their best all at the first inter-schools Cross Country Paarlauf event.

Scheduled to take place at Bryanston High School on April 11, the event was postponed to April 13 on account of the weather.

Nonetheless, the learners did not let the weather dampen their spirits as the enthusiastic team attended additional fitness training sessions at the school’s indoor multipurpose sports centre.

The Cross Country Paarlauf event, a distance of 8km, requires each member of a team of four runners to run a 2km relay.

According to Hyde Park High School communications secretary Avril Wright, the school entered six teams, all determined to hold their heads high as they went up against over 12 schools.

“One of the senior boys teams consisting of Tevin Reddy, Edward Tapfumaneyi, Nqoba Kama, and Musa Khorombi were placed 10th out of the 80 teams they competed against including Randpark High, Pretoria Boys and Northcliff High.

“Tevin Reddy a member of the team placed 10th was extremely proud of their achievement and thrilled to see how the pupils of Hyde Park High rallied and are motivated to continue to improve on their podium placement,” said Wright.
