Football association set for committee elections

RABIE RIDGE — MLFA deputy chairperson Sthembiso Buthelezi said it will be a dream come true for him to occupy the chairmanship and implement his long-awaited ideas for the association after serving as the deputy for three years.

Midrand Local Football Association (MLFA) will hold their 2022 committee election on April 23 to fill the chairperson and treasury positions among other top appointments.

This is after current chairperson Bob Maredi, who has been the in the seat since its inception in 2006, and treasurer Bennet Mmotla handed in their retirement letters after serving the association for more than 10 years.

The association’s deputy chairperson Sthembiso Buthelezi said it would be a dream come true for him to occupy the chairmanship and implement his long-awaited plans for the association.

“I am impressed with how they [Maredi and Mmotla] have served the association and I have leant a lot from them. I am a person who believes in democracy. Therefore, I will leave the voting to all the MLFA teams to vote for whoever they want but I wish to be part of the executive and be given a chance at a young age,” said Buthelezi.

The 31-year-old Buthelezi, who has served as the deputy chairperson for three years, said he had been part of the association since he was 21 years old and believed he was ready to occupy the chairman’s throne.

“If I were to be selected as the chairperson, firstly, I wish to have a chairman’s forum where we will engage with all chairmans of the teams to explore the business side of the teams such as marketing. Secondly, I would want to push to have a team from our league in the ABC Motsepe League.”

All teams affiliated with the association were given nomination and acceptance forms on March 19 to start canvasing for the election day.
