Veterans and first-timers donate blood at IIE Varsity College Sandton

SANDTON – IIE Varsity College Sandton students and lecturers donate blood to ensure that a life is saved.

A lot of brave students from IIE Varsity College Sandton were among millions of South Africans who devoted their time to donate blood to the South African National Blood Service (SANBS).

It comes as no surprise that the leaders of tomorrow are in full swing of healing and nurturing the world through their actions. The organised blood drive on March 25 had a few familiar faces that were already regulars to the blood-donating scene.

Zahraa Ahmed, who is a first-year student in the institution, donated blood with her peers. She shared that it was her eighth time donating blood to the South African National Blood Service and does not intend to stop any time soon. “My reasons as to why I donate blood are because one donation can save up to three lives and the other reason is in my religion, my prophet says save one life as if you are saving the whole of humanity. So that is why I donate blood.”

Of course, other students had their own unique reasons for donating blood on the day but carrying out the main goal of saving lives.

“It’s my seventh time donating blood and I really enjoy it. If you want to miss class, it’s definitely a valid reason with a positive effect on the world. Seven times three, 21 people were saved because of me. Go out there and save a life,” said second-year student, Tegan Hamiel.

“On my side, donating blood is something that I always look forward to, because it’s going to help someone so in most cases it’s a matter of saving lives. I am just grateful that I got the opportunity to donate blood at work as I usually don’t have time to,” concluded public relations representative, Anto Kagisho.
