Decade of water leak fixed

WENDYWOOD – According to Marisa Rothbauer who has been a Wendywood resident with her husband since 1971, briefly remembers the water leak issue starting before the 2010 FIFA World Cup

A water leak on the corner of Fleming Avenue and Darwin Street had been a problem affecting the community of Wendywood for more than a decade.

Marisa Rothbauer and her husband, Wolfgang, who had been fighting to find solutions to their water leak problems, can now heave a sigh of relief after Johannesburg Water successfully repaired the issue on February 7.

Marisa, who has been a Wendywood resident with her husband since 1971, briefly remembers when the water leak issue started.

“All that I remember was having the water leak before the 2010 World Cup and trying so hard to have it repaired.”

After years of contacting Johannesburg Water, ward councillors and reporters, Marisa and Wolfgang finally got their prayers answered on February 7 by Johannesburg Water.

“They [Johannesburg Water] came in the morning around 10:00 to repair the leaking water valve, it took them an hour and a half. The leak caused some serious damages to our property which nearly resulted in the collapse of our walkway wall. I am happy that we no longer have to worry about water being wasted, especially in our community,” said Marisa.

“Johannesburg Water attends to high priority mainline bursts within 48 hours. Leaking valves are responded to within four days, as the volume of water is much less than the network burst. Due to the presence of cable theft in Zandfontein, there were major delays with our responses,” said Puleng Mopeli of Johannesburg Water.
