Dodgeball players honoured during the prize-giving ceremony

SANDOWN – As teams were two weeks away from reaching the 2021 dodgeball finals last year, all matches were postponed due to the presence of the Covid-19 Omicron variant.

The Sandton Action Sports situated in Sandown took its time to celebrate all the achievements of teams that played in last year’s dodgeball league by organising an intimate prize-giving ceremony on February 1.

As teams were two weeks away from reaching the 2021 dodgeball finals, the action arena postponed all matches due to the presence of the Covid-19 Omicron variant, which led to the delay of the prize-giving.

Teams were welcomed back to finish off their last games at the start of the new year. Although the majority of the teams initially thought the league was cancelled, a few were excited to resume. Teams, such as the Dodge Fathers who have been dominating the league for three consecutive seasons, did not shy away from returning to the arena

Acting captain of the Cips Dodgers and the Cips Ballers, Suzanne Vermeulen, was very pleased to see her teams landing third and second place during the prize-giving ceremony, respectively.

She said, “Last week we played our finals and today was the prize-giving ceremony. We really did amazing last season, the main captain is not here to share the special moment with us but, in all honesty, we couldn’t have done it without each and everyone in the team. As funny as it may sound, our strategy for this season is to throw more accurately and continue to have fun.”

Sam Ndlovu, who has been the night manager of the Sandton Action Sport for 10 years, was very happy with the outcome of the final results. “I am happy with the results as most of the players have been here for a couple of years now. The most important thing about this tournament is to have fun with friends and I always see that,” said Ndlovu.

With little surprise, the champions of last year’s season were the mighty Dodge Fathers. Team captain, Jean Michau, was confident that his team would still be on the first-place podium stand.

Teams can still register for the 2022 season at Sandton Action Sports.
