1st Bryanston Scout hopes to inspire

BRYANSTON – The 1st Bryanston Scouts allows the community’s youth to take on a new adventure all while developing their leadership and life skills.

The 1st Bryanston Scouts leader Jonathan Pienaar hopes to inspire the community’s leaders of tomorrow.

According to Pienaar, he was inspired to join the Scouts by his parents who met each other through scouting. He became a Cub at the age of nine and has not looked back since.

“Meeting so many other like-minded individuals who were all there for the love of Scouting was truly something special.”

He recalled one of his favourite memories as a Scout, representing South Africa at the 24th World Scout Jamboree which took place in the USA. “The most memorable part of the Jamboree was being a part of the opening ceremony, sharing the stage with the likes of Lebo M and Bear Grylls,” he said.

Throughout the entire Scout experience, the most important lesson that Pienaar learnt from scouting was leadership – scouting teaches young adults how to be useful citizens to society.

When he aged out of the Scouts, at the age of 18, he moved to become a Scout leader.

“All the Scout Leaders I have interacted with throughout my scouting career are all an inspiration. I would like to assist in the development of the youth just as all the adults who assisted me were integral in my personal growth.”

The young Scout leader encourages more of the community youth to consider joining the Scout group. “Once you join, enjoy your scouting adventure: take advantage of the opportunity to get outdoors, learn life skills and have fun!”
