Musical comedy set to wow audiences at Theatre on the Square

SANDTON – Locked Upside Down is set to be a special night out filled with laughter, tears and memories.

Theatre on the Square is excited to announce their first post-lockdown production set to hit the stage from February 9 to 26.

The production, Locked Upside Down is a suburban musical comedy/revue which all can relate to.

Producer, owner and artistic director at Theatre on the Square Daphne Kuhn described it as a welcome theatrical tonic for the trying lockdown periods endured.

The show is conceived by Sharon Spiegel-Wagner alongside Lorri Strauss and musical director/pianist Cathrine Hopkins with the esteemed Alan Swerdlow as director.

The production explores the trials and tribulations of two mothers, their friendship and antics as they confront the Covid-19 pandemic during lockdown.

Audiences of Locked Upside Down are set to experience a special night out filled with laughter, tears and memories. The production team hopes to fill hearts with music, warmth, hope and positivity.

The theatre will continue to present regular classical and jazz concerts and a range of local and international plays and comedies are now in the pipeline.

Kuhn said that this signifies the start of new beginnings for 2022.

“Through entertainment, the theatre is committed to providing work opportunities and creativity for the industry and upliftment and healing for the public,” said Kuhn.

“We are inviting our very loyal and supportive audience back to Theatre on the Square to experience again the joy of stimulating live theatre. Through our crowd-funding efforts, we are developing a new audience and new patrons have been awakened during the two years of cultural inactivity. We look forward to their support to keep theatre alive. By adhering to the health protocols, our audiences will feel safe and secure.”
