Local cricket club welcomes former Protea

SANDTON – Thandi Tshabalala played for the national side before discovering his passion for mentoring and coaching.

Former Proteas’ cricket player Thandi Tshabalala looks forward to sharing his passion with the community.

The renowned local cricketer recently joined Bryanston’s very own Cover Drive Cricket School which helps to develop the skills of young cricket players between the ages of seven and 19.

During his time with the national squad in the mid-2000s, Tshabalala played in two ODIs against Ireland and two more against Zimbabwe.

The cricketer then chose to step back and redirect his passion for sport and skills into coaching, thus a partnership with the local cricket school.

According to Tshabalala, his experience on the international stage gives him an advantage as a coach. “I believe in growth so [with Cover Drive] I wanted to be part of something that has the potential to grow. I think that there is a lot more satisfaction when you start something small and it can become something bigger – it is exciting.”

Both Tshabala and Sydwell Ndlovu, Cover Drive Cricket School head coach, look forward to getting back on the pitch this season with the players and the coaches.
