Cannabis Expo in Sandton encourages alternative forms of health treatment

SANDTON – While majority of the participants found the perfect opportunity to unwind at the event, a few of them were led by other reasons.

The highly anticipated Cannabis Expo in Sandton welcomed everyone to a whole new experience filled with activities, food and the understanding of cannabis from health perspective.

The expo was hosted at the Sandton Convention Centre from November 18 to 21.

While many participants found the perfect opportunity to unwind, some were led to the expo for health, awareness or wellness reasons.

According to Craig Ludwig who works for IntroCann, a company that supplies and distributes medicinal cannabis to doctors in South Africa, cannabis is known for treating various illnesses such as arthritis, insomnia, anxiety, chronic illnesses and epilepsy. “This is a market that enables doctors to effectively prescribe a product that hasn’t been available to patients in South Africa previously,” said Ludwig.

“Ultimately, it is about a person’s health and being able to make the right choices for them. We [IntroCann] have seen significant improvements in the health of patients after taking medical cannabis. This platform allows doctors and patients to be able to be prescribed with natural products for the 14 conditions that the South African Health Products Regulatory Authority.”

For people like Donald Lethamaga, his mission for the day [November 18] was to inspect and identify which shops did not follow the regulations of selling products at the exposition.

“Today I am here with my team. We are from the Health Department and we are here to check compliance from both the organisers and shop owners. We look for certain things such as food labelling and if they have the correct paperwork. Most shop owners don’t have all the requirements that we were looking for so, for some, this will be an early ending to a great function,” concluded Lethamaga.
