Joburg Water is working on restoring water following major pipe burst in Wendywood
WENDYWOOD – "There is no estimated time for completion at this stage. We apologise to customers for the inconvenience caused," said Joburg Water in a released statement.
The community of Wendywood and surrounding areas have been left without water for 48 hours following a major pipe burst on Dalton Road.
People took to Twitter to express their frustration. These were some of the reactions:
@JHBWater currently 47 hours without water in wendywood. Seems there is no urgency for it to be repaired as the site is always empty. Surely 3 days without water warrants overnight work to fix the repair?

Corner of Darwin & Cavendish. Complete absence of any maintenance crews at 8am Wednesday. No pumping self evident.
No 46 hours without water and they are still providing no time lines. pic.twitter.com/ZVWVsqN7pp— Blackhawk (@vuzimbatha) November 24, 2021
I have 85 year old and a new baby on my premises … It's just hard … I know I take city living privilege for granted but hey my water bill is high

Joburg Water has since responded and said that the Marlboro reservoir 1 was emptied to assist with draining the main at Dalton road. The level of water has not dropped sufficiently to allow for work to continue, “We will be inspecting valves in the area to confirm where the water is originating from”.
“Once the pipeline is drained, repairs will commence. Roaming water tankers will be focusing on areas currently affected: Marlboro, Wendywood, Gallo Manor, parts of Morningside and Woodmead. There is no estimated time for completion at this stage. We apologise to customers for the inconvenience caused,” explained Joburg Water in a released statement.
Joburg Water also appealed to the community to use water sparingly and to remind them that level one water restrictions are still in place. “Watering of gardens is not allowed between 6:00 and 18:00 in summer months (September 1 to March 31) and furthermore, it is not allowed to wash paved areas and driveways using hosepipes,” urged Joburg Water.
