Participants of the MAD2Run and MAD2Ride event prepare to face their biggest obstacle
SANDTON – I know that my training was enough but I don't think that anything can prepare us for the new sleeping patterns and accommodation, said Andy Anderson
MAD2Run alongside MAD2Ride had a total of 51 participants with 80 support staff members in preparations for the journey from Sandton Square to Cape Town on October 8.
Despite the abnormal weather, participants of the MAD2Adventures event were all in high spirits. This year has both groups making their way to Cape Town on the same day. Both groups have been training excessively hard during each lockdown to further prepare them for the challenge that awaits them.
Andy Anderson, an experienced competitive runner and mother of two, will be taking shifts with her team during the MAD2Run challenge. “I think all of us are nervous about the weather but excited at the same time.
“I know that my training was enough but I don’t think that anything can prepare us for the new sleeping patterns and accommodation. I completed the Comrades Marathon twice before having children.
“I’ve always wanted to do this. Next on the bucket list is surviving this challenge.”
Runners like Daniel de Kretser have been preparing for this moment since last year and are grateful to do it for a good cause. “My friend, Chad Shering, and I did a 12-hour run last year and raised money.
“We are runners so we decided to participate in something meaningful and then we stumbled across MAD2Run. It was a pretty much what we were looking for.”
Each participant is given a pledge form to complete months before the challenge. Friends, families and coworkers sign how much money they will donate per kilometer that the participant will be running or riding.
