Redhill pianist takes the gold

MORNINGSIDE – According to Redhill School on social media, the standard of playing was extremely high, representing the best in the country.

Redhill School’s prodigy pianist Tanya Zhu continues to achieve on the national stage.

After four intense rounds of competing, the Grade 8 learner took home a first place finish at this year’s Hubert Van Der Spuy National Music Competition in Cape Town on September 23.

The competition is one of the most prestigious music competitions for junior musicians under the age of 13 in South Africa across all instruments.

According to Redhill School on social media, the standard of playing was extremely high, representing the best in the country.

Tanya was the overall winner, claiming first prize and a gold medal, alongside Emma Steenkamp who came second and Gongxuan Zhang who finished in third.

“We are so proud of Tanya’s dedication and artistry at the piano and congratulate her and her teachers, Pauline Nossel and Malcom Nay on their outstanding, masterful work,” said the school.
