Older generation shows younger generation how its done

SANDTON – "I started playing near City Deep when the arena was there and then went further to play in other locations like Woodmead," says Ahmed Johnson.

The thought of playing with someone who is twice your age and still has the skills of a teenager is hard to comprehend for some but not for the local cricket players at Sandton Action Sport.

Ahmed Johnson (60) who has been playing cricket since 1978, has not shown a single sign of slowing down when playing cricket against players younger than him. The player who has been nicknamed ‘Ouer Ballie’ is currently playing in a corporate cricket league at Sandton Action Sport with his team, Hatch.

“It feels good to come in and play against these talented players. I started playing near City Deep when the arena was there and then went further to play in other locations like Woodmead, Sandton, Randburg and Edenvale. So far, it has been a good run for me,” said Johnson.

“One of my secrets that people don’t know is that I still eat Jungle Oats in the morning.”

Despite his team losing their pre-season game to FirstRand Lions on September 30, he is hoping that Hatch will put on a good fight once the league begins on October 12.
