ILLOVO – Lions Cricket marketing and communications manager Wanele Mngomezulu said that not only was the organisation thrilled to partner with Ashraful Aid for this initiative but it is humbled by the opportunity.
It was a day of fun and laughter at the Imperial Wanderers Stadium as the community got their braai stands out for a good cause.
Members of the Ashraful Aid humanitarian organisation, members and players of Lions Cricket, and their respective families dedicated their Heritage Day, also known as National Braai Day, on September 24 to braai and donate 5 000 burgers.
Under the Braai for Charity initiative, the burgers were donated to various charities, communities and cricket clubs in the surrounding areas.
According to Ashraful executive director Moulana Suhail Wadee, many people in the community do not know where their next meal will come from. “[This initiative] allows us to not only provide a meal for thousands of families, but also to let them share a little of the braai day experience and shine a spotlight on the plight of so many children who go hungry every day.”
Lions Cricket marketing and communications manager Wanele Mngomezulu added not only was the organisation thrilled to partner with Ashraful Aid for this initiative but it is humbled by the opportunity.
“Many of us take for granted a simple enjoyment of the concept of the ‘braai day’ yet millions of our communities struggle to enjoy a meal on such a joyous occasion,” said Mngomezulu.
Lions Cricket CEO Jono Leaf-Wright added that when the team underwent its rebranding, it made a concerted effort to not only produce great cricket players but also to produce great people that the community could be proud of.
