The Troyeville Hotel has had a facelift … and it’s a must-visit!

The Troyeville Hotel is a Joburg original! First licensed in 1939, it’s one of the city’s oldest hotels on the eastern edge of the Joburg CBD. And the views of the skyline are superb!

The area has been the hangout for artists, musicians, political activists and sports fans for generations, and since The Troyeville’s restaurant features consistently in lists of the best places to eat in Johannesburg, this spot has hosted regular book evenings and has become a fixture of the city’s cultural life, attracting everyone from strip club owners to cabinet ministers.

​The Troyeville Hotel is no longer a hotel as such, we are currently offering six rooms for long-stay only. Although the entire venue has undergone a facelift, the new owners have kept the essence of The Troyeville Hotel that patrons have always known and love us for.

Our values of serving unfussy, excellent Portuguese cuisine paired with a range of drinks to suit your taste remains the same as it always was. We pride ourselves on offering an affordable, inviting environment with great service.

Here’s what’s new…
So what can you expect among our refreshed features? We’ve a newly revamped restaurant, an on-deck Sports Bar with a big screen and views of the Emirates Airline Stadium and the impressive city skyline, and a fabulous Pizza, Gin and Wine Garden – it’s child friendly too. On the second floor, we have a spacious function venue suitable for corporate events and private parties and you can enjoy live entertainment on the rooftop bar. A real drawcard on the ground floor is the Portuguese Coffee Shop – think freshly baked Portuguese delicacies, coffee and treats.

For the sports fans…
The Troyeville is within walking distance of Emirates Airline Park (also known as Ellis Park), and so we’ve become a destination restaurant and bar with sporting and live events.

The Troyeville is the best place for pre- and post-matches and events. If you don’t have tickets, we’re the perfect venue to soak up the atmosphere, just a stone’s throw away. Our newly refurbed Sports Bar boasts a big screen and we have over 20 TV screens in the venue showing all the action.

For those who love arts and culture…
For those who love arts and culture, the eastern edge of Joburg is well known for graffiti and street art … the area itself is very industrial, with many old warehouses and factories.

For the love of food…
The Troyeville Hotel is a brilliant spot to enjoy delicious Portuguese-inspired dishes paired with drinks of your choice (we’re open for breakfast, lunch or dinner seven days a week) while you soak up the warm atmosphere of our vibrant Joburg city.

Here’s what you’ll find:

• The Troyeville Coffee Shop – our Portuguese bakery and coffee shop. Our dream of transforming the old ‘Flamingo’ room into a functional Portuguese deli has come to light. Here we will be serving authentic Portuguese delights, freshly baked bread and pastries and a delicious range of coffees. Open from 7am daily.
• The Troyeville Public Bar – this bar is somewhat of an institution amongst our locals, we have chosen not to change this area too much, but we have given it a refreshed look welcoming our local community as well as a great place for sports lovers.
• The Troyeville Restaurant – is well known for its excellent Portuguese food. We have upgraded the look and feel of the restaurant but are still serving delicious food. We have added a glass cellar as wine goes so well with our Portuguese cuisine. We have a central pillar with four large TV screens. And of course, we have a spectacular view of the Joburg city skyline.
• The Troyeville Sports Bar – this used to be an outdoor seating area, we have stylishly closed it up and added a fantastic full-length bar with TV screens and a big screen. This is also our smoking area. A great place to come watch any sporting event.
• The Troyeville Gin and Pizza Garden – a wonderful new addition to The Troyeville offering. Our newly built pizza oven serving a wide range of pizzas which you can pair with our wines or gin cocktails – a fantastic space for lunch, sundowners or as an event space.
• The Troyeville Banqueting Hall – this space used to be the old hotel room space. We decided to break it down and create a versatile event space suitable for corporate events and private parties. The venue can host up to 120 people seated (with a dance floor or stage) and can be divided into different spaces to suit customer requirements.
• The Sunset 1403 rooftop bar – now this is the space to be and be seen! Another newly added space to our Troyeville offering. I mean just look at the view!
• The Sunset 1403 rooftop bar is open to all, however, there will be an entry fee to get up here of R200 (you will get R100 back as a voucher to spend on beverages). Up here we have a rustic industrial look and feel. There is a fully stocked bar with space to lounge or sit while taking in the entertainment on offer. Our resident DJ Mzwa (from Heatwave FM) will be on the decks providing music on Fridays and Saturdays, and Sheldon Sham, our saxophonist, playing light music on Sunday afternoons.
