Lions show appreciation for Ashraful Aid

MARLBORO GARDENS – The award, presented by the CGL each year, recognises key role players in the community who are making a difference to society.

Various organisations throughout the community continue to work together during trying times.

The non-profit organisation Ashraful Aid was recently honoured by the Central Gauteng Lions (CGL) with the Order of the Lion Presidential Award for its exceptional work for the community and cricket.

The award, presented by the CGL each year, recognises key role players in the community who are making a difference to society.

“This year we looked at the many men, women and organisations who worked tirelessly and long hours to contain the spread of the virus, as well as those who reached out to communities in dire need, through various poverty alleviation programmes,” said CGL marketing and media manager Wanele Mngomezulu.

The Order of the Lion is a symbol of strength, courage, royalty and stateliness.

Mngomezulu added that with the support of various organisations such as Ashraful Aid, the Lions were able to distribute more than 5 000 food parcels across various communities.

“We are proud to have Ashraful Aid partner with us in various activities to address poverty concerns facing many individuals and families.”

Ashraful Aid executive director Moulana Suhail Wadee, who received the award on behalf of the organisation, said the teams were extremely honoured to partner with the CGL.

“As we continue to respond to calls of despair from communities, we are thankful to have such a strong team like the CGL assisting us in our efforts to reach communities and hand out much needed essentials,” said Wadee.

Both groups look forward to extending this partnership and intensifying their efforts throughout the duration of the pandemic.
