Meet Rotary Club of Sandton’s new president

SANDTON – Kabelo Kgodane currently serves as a business development manager for airlines in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Rotary Club of Sandton made history as it celebrated 51 years of service in the community.

On June 29, the club made history when Kabelo Kgodane was inducted as its new president for the 2021/2022 year ahead. At the young age of 29, Kgodane became the youngest first black female to serve as the club’s president.

“I see this as an opportunity to celebrate our diversity and use our differences to better serve the Sandton community and surrounding areas, confidently living the African Renaissance dream that another personal role model, former President [Thabo] Mbeki introduced us to,” she said.

Kgodane thanked her predecessor David Haddon for his phenomenal leadership and inspiration through the past year.

“No one could have prepared you for the crises that we all found ourselves in, but you led us with courage, you led decisively and you have deliberately chosen to prioritise diversity and gender parity in our club,” she said of Haddon.

Kgodane added that the Covid-19 pandemic had forced many people to turn to digital technologies to sustain their livelihoods.

“It is through digital technologies that Rotary should serve to change lives and I’m excited to lead and be part of the amazing work that we as a club will produce in my year as president.”

Kgodane currently serves as a business development manager for airlines in Sub-Saharan Africa. She was also nominated as one of the Mail & Guardian’s top 200 Young South African’s in 2021, and was a winner in the category of tourism and hospitality.
