Varsity College seeks Alex soccer gems

Alex football players that excel in the township’s beautiful game stand a chance of joining the Varsity College side under a bursary scheme.

This was the message brought to the AmaZulu FC coaching clinics on 16 May by the Varsity side-team coach Dumisani Thusi, when he and his entourage came to lend a helping hand in the coaching clinics at the Number 3 Square Grounds.

“I know parents in this community do not have enough resources to pay for the studies of their children at various higher education institutions, and we at the Varsity College can seek out the gems of the township game to join our squad and have their tuition fees fully paid for by the college,” Thusi said in an interview with Alex News.

Once the gems have been spotted and taken up, Thusi said the Sandton-based college with campuses in Braamfontein and Midrand, pays all the tuition fee requirements for the duration of the course and the parents only have to pay for the accommodation side of things.

“There are already a couple of players in our team that we have scouted from Limpopo and the North West provinces, and we thought we could also put this word out here as well for those potential candidates.

“I must add that this offer also includes gems from the women’s football. We also have a girls’ team and we are doing our best to develop women’s football as well.”
