Two suspects arrested after allegedly robbing a clinic in Petervale

PETERVALE – Metro police flagged down a police van, soon after backup was called to the scene.

The area around Petervale and Bryanston was abuzz with reports of a shooting between suspects and local authorities. 

At 10.30am, spokesperson for the Provincial Police, Captain Kay Makhubela confirmed that on 15 May, two suspects have been arrested after being found in possession of the stolen property. 

Metro Police officers were visiting fellow officers who are charged with guarding the Petervale Clinic. “Upon their arrival they found the guards tired up and saw the suspects running. The officers stopped a police van that was passing and then back up was called,” said Makhubela. 

Suspects jumped from the back gate of the clinic and ran into the veld. Police then chased the suspects and arrested them in possession of laptops, computers, and other items.

He added that the suspects will be charged with possession of the stolen property and business robbery. They are expected to appear at Randburg Magistrates Court on Monday.

In the earlier hours of 15 May, the Chronicle received reports of an apparent robbery at the Petervale Clinic, Bryanston. A local security company on the scene said that two suspects have been arrested in Petervale after a shooting between police and the suspects.

It is still unclear at this stage what the suspects attempted to steal at the clinic.

The Chronicle has contacted both the Sandton Police spokesperson as well as Provincial Police.
