Back on the pitch with Sandton cricketer

SANDTON – The cricketer was excited and motivated to finally get back on the pitch.

Sandton Cricket Club’s Karen Woest is excited to be back on the pitch again.

The Sandton Chronicle caught up with Woest after her first match of the year when the Rebels women’s team took on a side from Dobsonville on 13 March at Hyde Park High School.

The cricketer was excited and motivated to finally get back on the pitch. “That feeling of getting back onto the pitch after such a long time was amazing, words couldn’t explain the feeling that I experienced.

“When I step onto the pitch I feel at home and then I get to forget about all the stress and problems. It takes me to another planet when I’m on the pitch,” she said.

Being away from the sport in the past few months did, however, have a slight effect on her confidence and performance. “My performance at the match [on 13 March] wasn’t the best I must say. I was impressed with my bowling performance but I struggled with my batting.

“It was not too bad for some who played no sport for such a long time.”

According to Woest, it look her a little longer to get back onto the pitch because she had been focusing all of her time and attention on studying and working. She hoped to continue to fulfil her passion for cricket as the year continued.

“My cricket plans for the rest of the year is to continue training and working hard on my skills, improving my skills and giving my all to show everybody what potential I have as a cricketer.”
