Sandton-based paddlers take on the Sprint Championships

Gauteng Canoe Union hosted the prestigious Sprint Championships on 6 March in which Sandton-based paddlers took to the water.
The event was hosted at Victoria Lake Canoe Club, based at Germiston Lake, to enable selection for the Gauteng Sprint team to participate in the SA School Sprint Championships which will take place at Shongweni Dam at the end of March.
The event also provided points for those participating in the Gauteng Canoe Union School League races. Distances raced included 200m and 500m within the sprint lanes.

Participants between the ages of eight and 80 took part and enjoyed getting out following a year of curtailed sports events as a result of Covid-19.
St David’s Marist Inanda paddlers participated actively in the Gauteng Canoe Union Schools team and excelled in the Gauteng Sprint Championships.
