Sandton learners connect with nature

BRYANSTON – While the focus of the day was the plants, the learners had the opportunity to learn valuable lessons in responsibility, patience and hard-work.

In an effort to convey the importance of preserving the environment, Sandton Junior School together with sister-school Smiley Kids Sandton, hosted a plant a flower day.

The learners and teachers spent the morning of 12 March planting in the school garden.

“We have used the idea as inspiration for our children to learn about the outside world. By contributing to the life of the little flowers in the garden they play in every day, it changes the way they care for, not only their space but everything within it,” said Sandton School Group owner Nadya Katz.

“One small act can change the way a child thinks about their space but a change we never saw coming was the positive response from our parents – already sending bushels and bundles a week ahead of time for their children to plant,” added Katz.

Both schools would like to thank the learners and parents for their contribution as well as encourage more people in the community to go out and plant a flower or a few, and get their hands dirty.
