Why is Urban Sass different?

What inspired Urban Sass?

Our founder, Mandy Solomon, knew exactly what bothered her about the quality of products and treatments, the level of service and the lack of personal touch she received in hairdressing salons in Jozi. So, she travelled the globe to discover pearls of brilliance from salons across the globe that she then fused into the unique Urban Sass boutique experience in 2017. An experience that customers long to return to, time and again.

What exactly do you offer?

Oh, you mean apart from world-class products, some of the most esteemed and talented stylists, colour specialists, and wig experts, as well as a fully-fledged blow and braid bar, full nail bar and thread and lash bar? It would have to be our rare degree of unparalleled sassiness, craziness and passion.

PLUS, while our hair artistes work their magic, our clients can sip on a cappuccino, or a glass of wine, surf the web and enjoy a complimentary head and hand massage. But best of all, they get to engage with and enjoy the company of, our very sassy, very bubbly, very skilled team of professionals.

How has COVID changed your business?

Aaah the coronacoaster! It hit us hard and we’re still feeling the effects of it. While we anxiously awaited the day we were allowed to open our doors, we had to find ways of reinventing ourselves with home delivery colour kits and live Whatsapp video consultations with the client’s hairdresser who would talk them through the application process, step by step. We also went to great lengths to ensure that looking sassy didn’t come at the expense of our clients’ health.

From on-going updates and communication to producing videos that demonstrated how we had effectively instituted safe distancing measures, stringent sanitation, hygiene and temperature checking protocols, online COVID compliant consent forms and cash-free payments, our clients know that we have put their safety, and that of our staff, first.

What has been your happiest moment?

Keeping our doors open after lockdown! Jokes aside, there isn’t a single moment. It’s every time our clients leave our salon feeling confident, happy and rejuvenated. We never take for granted that every day, clients choose US to style them into the best version of themselves. They come to us for love, care, soul and beauty pampering. And we cherish each and every client, each and every friendship, each and every opportunity.
