Meds with a click of a button

SANDTON– Local residents have all your medication needs sorted.

The Covid-19 pandemic has brought much turmoil to the world, especially in the healthcare industry. With frontline workers under pressure and hospitals too full, a simple thing such as getting your monthly medication is now a chore. However, health delivery app – MedsToGo – has made it easier for South Africans all over to purchase their prescription, chronic and overthe-counter (OTC) medication and also have it delivered seamlessly.

Sandton based, the founders began the journey three years ago when an independent pharmacy approached them. “A friend of ours who runs an independent pharmacy came to us and said ‘everything has gone digital, why hasn’t meds? And so the idea was born.” Stating that, although there are delivery apps out there already, MedsToGo has given independent pharmacies and users the full digital experience and has made getting prescription medication much easier.

“In a safe environment users can upload a script, make a purchase and get it delivered fast and effectively in 24 to 48 hours. Right now we are onboarding independent pharmacies onto the app. What we want to do is give them a fair chance of being able to play in the digital space. It also helps give them a fighting chance against the big corporations,” they said. With over 2 500 independent pharmacies in South Africa, they added that the app is available nationwide and even in neighbouring countries.

Mentioning that an app like this is also helping in the fight against the virus. “If we get more people to fulfil their meds on the app after they have had a consult or a tele-consult we are reducing the burden on the clinics and pharmacies having to go instore and collect it.”

Having more feet stay indoors is reducing the footprint of people having to leave their homes and go to high-risk areas. Healthcare workers can also order their own meds on the app or have it sponsored by another user who wants to help out.

“The next growth phase is to implement two things and that is a full e-commerce section on the app for non -OTC or what we call front of-house items. We also want to introduce tele-consults with pharmacists, doctors and health experts.”

“This will give users the ability to go into the app and do the consult, have your script mailed and place your order all at one go. “All the convenience in the comfort of your own home.” For the month of February they will be running a zero delivery fee and zero MedsToGo fee campaign.
