How to prepare your car for the much-anticipated festive season

Prep your wheels for the holidays with these safety tips.

Prep your wheels for the holidays: IT’S IMPORTANT! The festive season is fast approaching and while this brings lots of travelling for most of us, it is great to ensure that your vehicle is safe and sound for the trip.

It is not only safe but also gives you peace of mind on the road to know that your vehicle’s condition is excellent.

TOP TIP from the AA: Always have an alternative route in mind, and stay up to date with road conditions and traffic issues on your planned route. Be sure to check out our road conditions and distance calculator here.

  • Service your car: A service ensures that everything runs smoothly without any issues. Things such as the coolant system, wiper blades, brakes, tyres, oil, transmission, and brake fluid are some of the key aspects that one should pay attention to.
  • Proper roadside assistance: No one wants to get stranded in the middle of nowhere and in bad weather. There are situations that can result in a faulty vehicle having to get towed to the nearest service shop. Ensure that you get proper roadside assistance that will help prevent those.
  • Get an emergency kit: The emergency kit is not limited to only a medical kit. It, however, extends to equipment such as jumper cables, rope, small knife, water, gloves, portable cell phone chargers, and a first-aid kit.
  • Battery: It is simple, a dead battery will restart in a car that won’t start. So, get it checked, I know outlets like Battery Centre offer free battery checks.
  • Lights: Your vehicle’s lights need to be in perfect condition and if you are going to tow a trailer or caravan, make sure the lights, as well as indicators, are in good working condition.
  • Your spare wheel: Although we often forget to check the pressure as well as the condition of the spare wheel, it’s is a good thing to ensure that it is inflated with the correct pressure and it is still in a good condition.
