Suspects arrested

BRAMLEY – Spokesperson for the Bramley Police Station Captain Molefe Mogodi explained that the suspects were traced and arrested at their homes.

Bramley detectives achieved excellent results through the tracing of wanted suspects over the weekend of 27 to 29 November.

Spokesperson for the Bramley Police Station, Captain Molefe Mogodi said the suspects were traced and arrested at their homes.

“Most of them have been arrested for crimes such as theft and assault. Some of the assault cases are related to domestic violence incidents,” added Mogodi.

He said a 33-year-old suspect was arrested in Stjwetla informal settlement, just outside Alexandra, for an alleged rape incident which occurred in October this year.

“The report made to the police was that the suspect approached and made promises to a 13-year-old girl in return for sexual favours. The suspect allegedly asked the girl to allow him to touch and have sexual intercourse with her in return for a cell phone. The girl then informed her father and even showed him the phone bought for her by the suspect.”

Mogodi said the father immediately reported the matter to police and a case was allocated to the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit for further handling and investigation. Mogodi added that a thorough investigation led to the arrest and detention of the 33-year-old suspect.

Mogodi said day-to-day operations performed by the sector teams also contributed to the arrest of suspects for shoplifting and possession of suspected stolen property.

On 27 November, Bramley police arrested two men for possession of suspected stolen property. Police were called to assist a security reaction officer in arresting the suspects.

“According to the information, the two men were allegedly seen driving recklessly along Katherine Road. That prompted the reaction officer to follow the vehicle. They sped off but the driver lost control and the vehicle came to a standstill at the corner of Riverside and East Road in Athol.

“Upon searching the vehicle, police found suspected stolen property including laptops, wine, a bracelet and necklace for which the suspects were unable to account for.”

Mogodi said further information revealed that the vehicle that the suspects were driving was fitted with false registration plates and had since been impounded.

“The two suspects, aged 39 and 42 will appear in court soon. We appreciate the information that we get from the community and we still encourage them to report all kinds of crime.”
