Beware of this crime syndicate

Meetings must rather be arranged in public places.

Sandton police warn residents about another robbery where laptops were stolen with the perpetrators using the same modus operandi.

The Chronicle wrote about another incident of the crime in Sandton police warn residents of new crime syndicate [Week ending 16 October].

Spokesperson for the Sandton Police Station Captain Bheki Xulu said a complainant who was selling a laptop was called to deliver it to an apartment in Grayston Drive, Sandton on 12 October.

“The complainant was accompanied by his business partner. When they arrived at the address, they found a woman inside the apartment. “While they were busy inside, three armed men pitched up inside the house,” said Xulu.

“The business partner was forced by these men to transfer money into their account, forcing him to give his bank card and pin code. The suspects then went to the complainant’s vehicle and took two laptops and cell phones.”

Xulu added that the suspects drove the complainants away and dropped them off. The suspects drove away with a white Toyota Corolla.

According to Xulu, several incidents have been reported over the past week for common robbery and cell phone snatching with the criminals using a white Toyota Corolla that has a false registration number.

“Station commander of Sandton police is requesting the community to be aware of such business activities of buying/selling of stuff via social media. Meetings must rather be arranged in public places.”
