Meet the St David’s Marist Inanda leaders of tomorrow

This will enable the young men at St David's to hold themselves to a higher standard regardless of societal achievements or accomplishments.

The future of St David’s Marist Inanda’s legacy will fall of the shoulders of four formidable young men next year.

Head of school Giuliano Maraschin and deputy heads of school Mohamed Zidan Cassim, Manqoba Bungane, Daniel Ferriman will lead the school as it takes on a new year of possibilities.

Under Giuliano’s leadership, the formidable quartet hopes to improve the perceptions that each St David’s learners has of themselves. “This will enable the young men at St David’s to hold themselves to a higher standard regardless of societal achievements or accomplishments,” said Giuliano.

He added that their role as head prefects remains to guide and support their fellow learners on their personal journey to becoming gentlemen of integrity and honour. “By emanating this in my personal interactions with learners, staff members and the community at large, I hope to inspire each young man at St David’s to embody their own true essence of a gentleman,” Giuliano said.

Deputy heads Mohamed, Manqoba and Daniel share Giuliano’s idea of their role as head prefects. “A head prefect needs to be someone who sets the standard for people to follow but also needs to help guide the boys through their journey,” added Daniel.

Mohammed noted that characteristics of authenticity and compassion also remain important as it enables the head prefects to consistently evolve and navigate through a range of situations appropriately.

“It would provide the foundational compass for the head prefects’ responses and inspire both trust and confidence to other prefects and students. It is aligned with the school’s ethos and will offer a simple yet effective reference for moral judgement throughout the year ahead,” he said.

Manqoba and Daniel added that much like their respective journeys; each of the boys have grown and learnt from their victories and shortcomings in order to prepare for this prestigious role. “Obviously there have been ups and downs but after it all I am happy to be where I am right now in my life. I feel like St David’s has given me the chance to prosper and find myself in the school environment,” said Daniel.

Manqoba concluded, “At the end of the day I could always reflect on the badge and motto I represent with pride ‘Confortare Esto Vir’ which translates to ‘take courage and be a man’ with a better understanding and level of accountability of what it truly means to be a man.”

The four learners look forward to a victorious year as they lead the student body into a new year.
