Police and resident help mother and daughter

CRAIGHALL PARK – The journey was a quest to re-unite a mother and her child with their family back in Mpumalanga.

Parkview police together with a good Samaritan helped mother and daughter reunite with their family in Mpumalanga on 24 September. According to spokesperson Captain Tintswalo Sibeko, Vuyokazi Dlamini a Craighall Park resident found a mother and her daughter at a Caltex Garage in Parkmore.

“Dlamini stopped at the garage and she saw a little girl following her while buying herself a coffee. She bought chips for the girl. She went to the mother and asked her where they were residing and the mother said they were staying outside the garage. She took both the mother and the three-year-old girl in from 17 September to 22 September,” Captain Sibeko recounted.

She added that Dlamini then went to Parkview SAPS on 22 September to report that she had found the mother and the child at the garage and enquired how the police could assist. “On the 23rd of September Social Crime Prevention member, Sergeant Iris Phoko and Dlamini took the child to Charlotte Maxeke Hospital for observation as the child was bleeding on her left ear.

“It was discovered that an earring stopper was stuck on the child’s ear. The child was admitted for operation at Charlotte Maxeke Hospital and the stopper was removed. The child was taken to Sunlight Care Centre in Parktown while the mother received counselling from Parkview victim support.”

The captain further reported that on 24 September, Sergeant Phoko, Detective Sergeant Victor Maela and Dlamini went to Piet Retief in Mpumalanga to reunite the mother and daughter with their family. She said, “The mother’s sister confirmed that her sister left home and she has been on the street since the child was five months old.

“The Station Commander of Parkview SAPS Colonel Theledi Gopane would like to thank Dlamini for keeping the mother and child safe; Parkview Victim Support, Charlotte Maxeke Hospital and Sunlight Centre commend Sergeant Phoko and Sergeant Maele for ensuring that the mother and child arrived safely to be reunited with their family.”
