It was bright and colourful at Bryneven Primary School on 28 and 29 September. Celebrating National Heritage Day over two days, learners and teachers showcased a true rainbow nation.

Grade 4 teacher Prabashnee Govender said that the children were all too excited to show their culture and heritage to their peers.

“At Bryneven Primary School, we have always honoured our longstanding tradition of celebrating the wealth of our rainbow nation. This year saw a slightly different twist, with the overshadowing presence of the COVID-19 pandemic,” she said.

She added that the day was greeted with jubilance, as learners and teachers, dressed in their cultural and ethnic attire, united in a common purpose – to commemorate the significance that this day holds for us as a nation.

“It was a day engulfed by pride, passion and reverence for one’s culture, showcased in the most adorning garments. This year’s celebration certainly held an overpowering message for all of us, that even in the face of adversity, the true spirit of celebrating in our diversity, can never be extinguished.,” said Govender.
