Sandton communities unite for a fun-filled Heritage Day

Members of the community group each volunteered to manage activities for children or adults while others made donations towards the lunchtime feast.

The Sandton community put its best foot forward this Heritage Day.

The Wendywood and Morningside Manor Community Action Network (Can) spent an entire day filled with fun and food on 24 September with the community at Innesfree Park.

According to one of Can’s organisers, Sharon Lefkowitz it was a successful day indeed. “We had 300 of our beneficiaries join us at Innesfree Park for an up-skilling and uplifting day. We kicked off with a speech on Respect for Others by Debbie Dolamo, a Grade 8 learner of Curro Schools, and then we had skill activities for children and adults,” she said.

Members of the community group each volunteered to manage an activity for children or adults while others made donations towards the lunchtime feast.

Activities throughout the day for the children and adults ranged from knitting and crocheting, organised by Lena Chitima and Allyson Rischbieter, and helping the children create their own veggie gardens using egg cartons courtesy of Lorraine Silverman.

The day was truly one to remember for both the community action group and its beneficiaries.
