Mediclinic rejects fake message circulating on social media
MORNINGSIDE – Mediclinic has implemented the necessary measures to manage any patients presenting with symptoms and to prevent the potential transmission of the virus at its facilities.
Mediclinic has rejected a factually incorrect message circulating on social media with regards to an alleged instruction preventing doctors from performing CPR on Covid-19 patients.
“Mediclinic would like to note that the claims referencing [to] Mediclinic Morningside in this message are false,” said Chief Clinical Officer of Mediclinic Southern Africa, Dr Stefan Smuts.
According to Smuts Mediclinic has implemented the necessary measures, in accordance with the protocols of the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) and the Department of Health, to manage any patients presenting with symptoms and to prevent the potential transmission of the virus at its facilities.
“Our priority remains the safety of patients, staff and doctors and as always, decisions about hospitalisation and treatment will be made by the treating doctor based on a patient’s condition,” he added.
Mediclinic remains committed to playing its part in supporting the Department of Health where required.
“Everyone in the healthcare chain needs to play their part to prevent further transmission and aid in the best care of those infected and in need of care,” said Smuts.
Individuals exposed to Covid-19 are advised to self-monitor and self-isolate with testing warranted if symptoms develop.
