SuperSport United Soccer Schools Sandton has a blast with live video training

SANDTON – These training sessions complement the SSUSS and Global Football Online training programme that was launched at the end of March.

Training has moved from the sports field to the garden or bedroom for players at SuperSport United Soccer Schools (SSUSS) Sandton.

During the lockdown, the soccer schools’ branches around South Africa have instituted online training sessions. Sandton’s head coach, Jordao Correia hosts live video sessions with the players, giving them his own exercises and drills to perform at home.

These training sessions complement the SSUSS and Global Football Online training programme that was launched at the end of March, catering to players from age four to advanced players.”The online training allows players to participate in daily training sessions based on the SSUSS curriculum as well as fitness exercises presented by Josh Capazorio, a leading conditioning and strengthening coach who has worked with top athletes worldwide,” explained Mike Hughes of the soccer schools.

“The online training programme together with the daily Zoom sessions have filled the huge void created by the lockdown and has ensured that the players have been kept active both mentally and physically. Our Sandton, Mark’s Park, Randburg and Greenside SSUSS centres are totally prepared for the re-opening with plans to ensure all the required safety regulations are in place as the safety of the children [players] is sacrosanct.”

Hughes said coaches, players and parents couldn’t wait to get back to training together at Bryneven Primary School. Until then, Correia’s live Zoom training sessions do not neglect the individual’s needs at a local level. Furthermore, there is a #LockdownSkillChallenge going on where players can send soccer schools videos of themselves doing tricks for a chance to win one of three SuperSport United Football Club replica jerseys.

For a taste of the SSUSS training programme, visit the school’s Facebook pages to watch some of these skills videos as well as the live training sessions on Saturday mornings. The U6s start at 8.30am and the U7s and above start at 9am.
