Correctional Services Covid-19 cases rise to 149

The Department of Correctional Services records three new positive cases of Covid-19.

The Department of Correctional Services (DCS) has reported three new confirmed cases of Covid-19, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 149 as of May 2.

In a statement on 2 May, DCS spokesperson Singabakho Nxumalo said that three officials from the Western Cape tested positive for the novel virus.

The total breakdown is as follows:

Eastern Cape – 91
Officials – 35
Inmates – 56
One recovery.

Western Cape – 44
Officials – 42
Inmates – 2
One death under investigation

Limpopo – 2
Officials – 2
Inmates – 0
One recovery.

Gauteng – 11
Officials – 3
Inmates – 8

Head Office
Officials – 1
One recovery
