Informal waste reclaimers in Region E receive 1 030 food packs and sanitisers

PARKMORE – Informal waste reclaimers receive donations amid of the Covid-19 lockdown.

The Supplier Development Initiative (SDI) Force has started a special fundraising initiative using the Momba Foundation and Unity Values to support informal waste reclaimers in Region E.

According to the SDI Force, South Africa has 90 000 informal waste reclaimers who haul trolleys across the city to collect tins, plastic and paper. “Under coronavirus lockdown, municipal waste collections have continued but the movements and livelihoods of the waste reclaimers have been frozen,” said the organisation.
