Applications for the 2020 South African National Youth Orchestra just closed and one budding musician is ready for her audition.
Eugenie Bouah, a Redhill School learner and Morningside resident, is ready to reach some of her musical goals.
Having been part of the orchestra two years ago, Eugenie would like to express herself in the orchestra this year again.
She said that being part of the orchestra has given her much confidence. “It does give you a lot of motivation for many things, passing an exam with really high marks is always a highlight for me, and it definitely helps you with math.”
Trained in two classical instruments, the piano and the violin, she’s chosen to do her audition with the violin.
“I started both instruments when I was just six years old. As I grew I started training more seriously to hone my craft. My mom wanted me to learn discipline and try something else and see if I could conquer it and be really good at it one day,”
Her interest in the violin came about when she saw someone else playing it and fell in love at first sight and sound. While music is a passion of hers, she would like to study law later on.
“I wouldn’t want to pursue a musical career my entire life. I have always wanted to be a lawyer from watching a lot of court shows and I just really see myself being a lawyer one day. It seems really nice, you get paid to argue and to talk.”
And at just 13 years-old Eugenie has many aspirations for 2020.
A tennis player as well she intends on upskilling in the sport and getting her academics up.
