With rave reviews and immense support, nominations and awards, it’s set to be an epic feat. Set in 1980 during the apartheid era in South Africa, it tells the story of a young conscript – Nicholas van der Swart. After being recruited to serve in the military, the young man must do his best to try to survive the brutality of his army masters.

After a connection forms between him and another recruit, the harsh reality of what would happen if anyone found out reveals an even crueller wasteland.

Director Olivier Hermanus said that the film is based on a book and its inspiration was the shame and indoctrination.

A struggle for freedom and a fight for acceptance, the film seeks to stimulate conversation with its message.
