IN TWEETS: Election of the new Joburg Mayor has been postponed to next week

JOBURG – The council has decided to postpone the mayoral elections until thorough consultation.


The 27th of November was the last day of Herman Mashaba in office as the City of Johannesburg Executive Mayor.

On 28 November, the  City of Joburg had a special council meeting to elect a new mayor who will succeed Mashaba today but it has been postponed to 4 and 5 December. 

The North Eastern Tribune reporter, Lungile Dube, was reporting live at the council meeting.

Three key candidates will battle it out for the position of Johannesburg mayor.

The ANC has 121 seats, the DA 104 and the EFF 30. The total votes needed to win a majority is 136.
