Sixteen injured as taxi rolls down an embankment

BRYANSTON – The patients were treated on scene and once stabilised were transported by various ambulance services to hospital for further treatment.

According to a released statement by Shawn Herbst from the communications office of Netcare 911, at 06.23am Wednesday morning (23 October), Netcare 911 responded to reports of a collision on William Nicol Drive in Bryanston, Sandton.

Reports from the scene indicate that the driver of a mini-bus taxi lost control resulting in the taxi rolling several metres down an embankment.

Herbst said that the paramedics assessed the scene and found that 16 patients, male and female had sustained injuries ranging from minor to serious.

ER24 paramedics said that the occupants had already climbed out and were now seated around the vehicle when they arrived.

Medics therefore assessed the patients and found that sixteen people had been injured. Four patients required advanced life support interventions.

“The patients were treated on scene and once stabilised were transported by various ambulance services to hospital for further treatment,” said Herbst.

All necessary authorities were present at the scene.
