Call for communities to take on Plank Challenge

JOBURG – The Wanderers Sports Medical Centre calls on the community to take on the plank challenge.

The Wanderers Sports Medical Centre (WSMC) is once again encouraging everyone willing and able to participate in the plank challenge for the month of October.

The plank is a full-body workout, it works the core, glutes, lower back, legs, shoulders and upper back. It has many variations, this means anyone can do it no matter what level they are at. This challenge will develop your core strength over 30 days as you perform the plank position for progressively longer periods each day.

There are some days in the challenge set aside for rest – make sure you stick to doing these as rest and recovery as a vital component of the training as the actual exercise itself.

Mishka Nair a biokineticist intern at the Wanderers Sports Medical Centre is currently heading this year’s plank challenge and is urging everyone to take a step closer in achieving their health goals.

“For October, we are doing a plank challenge where people can follow a progressive plank programme requiring them to plank every day, each time holding the plank longer. We are also running a competition to see who can hold the basic elbow plank the longest, we have a leader board and there is going to be a prize for the winner at the end of the month,” explained Nair.

The WSMC, supplied by Origin Fitness, offers sports medical doctors, homoeopaths, physiotherapists, podiatrists, biokineticists amongst other specialists and allows a regular person to train inside the Bullring. Get yourself fit into one of the most iconic stadiums in the world.

If you have what it takes and are ready for the challenge, post a picture of yourself on Instagram doing the plank challenge and tag @wsmc_bullring #PlankChallenge.
