Brescia House learners care

SANDTON – Brescia House School learners donate care packs to Randburg Police Station for rape victims.

In commemoration of Women’s Rights Awareness Month, learners at Brescia House School recently donated a range of products to make emergency care packs for women and children who have been victims of assault and rape.

Learners at the school researched what items should be inside the packs and each pack included a special soft toy and an item to be hugged and loved. The packs were then handed over to Randburg Police Station Trauma Unit. Station spokesperson Captain Makgowanyana Maja confirmed that they received the care packs.

Apart from learning, the school also takes part in non-profit organisation projects where the learners and staff dedicate their time and give back to those in need. Head of counselling and community outreach Liz Norman outlined the importance of such initiatives, “All these initiatives are important as it inculcates the spirit of service in the minds and hearts of our girls. It teaches them empathy for the needs of others. It keeps then connected to the reality of the world around them and helps build a sense of community.

“Probably most importantly, we hope it helps all our pupils grow into responsible, caring global citizens who are very aware of the needs and rights of all around them and their connection to the world.”

The school also lends a helping hand to local street vendors by supporting their beadmaking and hand craft projects. This includes the beaded Brescia Hat project and other school items such as badges, key-rings and trophies which they sell for the bead men.
