Water woes hit Bryanston

BRYANSTON – Residents are encouraged to actively report water leaks and burst pipes following an influx of burst pipes and leakages in Bryanston.

The water woes have hit Bryanston as multiple water leaks and pipe bursts have occurred over the past week. Residents are encouraged to remain active in reporting incidents to Joburg Water.

“Bryanston has been plagued by multiple pipe bursts over the last few days. Each was escalated by my office to the Joburg Water Depot and the Joburg Water Capex Department,” said Ward 102 councillor David Potter.

Joburg Water has undergone pipe upgrades in the area but some of the pipes and connections have burst, Potter noted. He said that his office has raised the issue and continues to be in contact with the entity.

“Where bursts have occurred, reinstatement of paving and tar may be required and my office will, in due course engage with Joburg Water regarding this,” he said.

According to Member of the Mayoral Committee for Environment and Infrastructure Services, Nico de Jager, Joburg Water has teams in all of the available depots that will effectively fix and isolate pipe bursts as and when they occur to reduce the quantity of water being wasted. “Fixing bursts will take longer as there are only a certain number of teams available to fix bursts,” he said.

“If anyone can provide specifics of where a burst had been reported and not been attended to within a reasonable timeframe it will assist greatly.”

Residents are encouraged to report leaks and pipe bursts to Joburg Water and not presume that someone else has logged it.

Community members are encouraged to report incidents via email to customer@jwater.co.za and follow @JHBWater on Twitter for updates.
