App-based taxi driver arrested for robbery

SANDTON – An e-hailing driver has been arrest for his involvement in a robbery.


The driver of an app-based taxi service was arrested on 18 September after being identified as an accomplice in a robbery incident.

The man (25) was identified as an accomplice in a cell phone robbery which took place on 16 September in the Sandton CBD.

According to Captain Granville Meyer, head of corporate communications at the Sandton Police Station, after the incident, the victim immediately wrote down the vehicle’s registration number which led to the arrest of the driver.

“The suspect is currently in detention and will appear in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court tomorrow,” Meyer said.
