Searching for the next football star

BRYANSTON – Red Bull Kasi Cup semi-finals set to take centre stage, while talented footballers will be afforded an opportunity to travel abroad.

Top footballers and Red Bull ambassadors gathered in Bryanston for the announcement of the fixtures for the Red Bull Kasi Cup semi-finals scheduled for 28 September.

The top four teams from around Gauteng – Zark Park, Jan Mlambo 11, Gibos River Park Football Club and Snack Football Club – will battle it out for a spot in the final.

Selected footballers participating in the tournament will be able to showcase their talent at the Red Bull Football Academy in Salzburg, Austria.

At the announcement event, football freestyler and Guinness World Record holder Chris Njokwana entertained the crowd with his silky football tricks and challenged the captains of the participating teams to show their skills. Lehlohonolo Sibanyoni, captain of Jan Mlambo 11, was named the winner after completing the challenge with precision.

Sibanyoni could then choose which side his team would like to face in the semi-finals. The 26-year-old chose Snack FC, saying that it would be a good game for the spectators. “I think this will be an entertaining one, a good game for the fans on the day, and we’re really practising hard for this game.”

The other semi-final will see Zark Park take on Gibos River Park.

Red Bull Kasi Cup ambassador and former Bafana Bafana midfielder, Siphiwe Tshabalala expressed his excitement ahead of the tournament. “As players, we are always looking for opportunities to showcase our talent and I am excited to be part of this tournament. As a product of Kasi football, I am honoured to champion the Red Bull Kasi Cup because platforms like these enable us to continue showcasing new talent.”
