Sandown High hold a silent protest against women abuse

SANDOWN– Sandown High School learners protested in silence in solidarity to women and children who have been abused, #AmINext?


In response to the recent reports of the scourge of violence against women and children in South Africa, Sandown High School held a silent protest in solidarity on 7 September. 

Many learners sat in silence holding posters that stated, ‘NO means No, Stop rape, Speak out’.

Some posters said, ‘Am I Next?’ A hashtag trending widely on social media after incidents brought to the public’s attention with huge media attention such as the cases of the murder and rape of UCT student Uyinene Mrwetyana, the kidnapping of Vanderbijlpark young girl Amy’ Leigh de Jager and the hanging of four siblings by their father in Durban. People have decided to take their own stance with various protest action seen around the country.

This publication’s reporter Gift Tlou attended the silent protest, watch as Grade 10 learner Prudence Ndlela recites a poem against gender-based violence.

Earlier today, Bryanston High School learners held a similar protest saying ‘Enough is Enough’, as they held their protest at the William Nicol Drive bridge in Bryanston.
