Gautrain management apologises after bus driver was caught driving and texting

SANDTON – A bus driver was filmed by a passenger driving and texting while transporting passengers to Rivonia on Tuesday, 05 July.

In a since-deleted, but still circulating video on social media, the driver is seen texting while briefly looking at the road.

Kesagee Nayager Gautrain spokesperson said that they are thankful to the passenger who brought the matter to their attention. “We apologise unreservedly for this incident that should not have happened,” said Nayager.

According to Nayager, the driver of the bus has since been suspended. The Gautrain management will be taking internal disciplinary hearing steps to ensure that this does not happen again.

Nayager added that texting and driving is not only a violation of their company rules but also that of the National Road Traffic Act and as such, they will guarantee that due processes are followed when it comes to this matter.
