Man sustains critical injuries after explosion at a Bryanston complex

BRYANSTON – Paramedics responded to reports of a shooting, only to find out an explosion had occurred.


Netcare 911 responded to what was first reported to be a shooting at a residential complex on Hobart Road in Bryanston, Sandton this afternoon (28 June).

With further inspection, spokesperson for Netcare 911, Shawn Herbst, said a shooting had not occurred but an explosion that left an adult male with critical injuries, due to amputation and extensive burns.

Paramedics treated the patient with advanced life support, and once stabilised, he was transported by ambulance to a hospital to receive further treatment.

The scene was cordoned off by the police for further investigation and the type of explosion is yet to be determined.
